The Christmas Tree @ Central Park
In 2015, the Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership had a vision to enhance the Christmas experience in Downtown. That idea was the impetus for a fundraising campaign to purchase a 36-foot tall, animated Christmas Tree. With the help of over 100 sponsor contributions, this vision became a reality. The Christmas Tree @ Central Park has 400 branches, over 72,000 red, green, and white lights, 100 strobe lights and a four-foot-tall star. The Tree is animated and synced to your favorite holiday music, and it has become a major tourist attraction.
Hometown Christmas Stroll and Light Up Night
Join the Discover Downtown Johnstown Partnership for the annual Hometown Stroll & Light Up Night. Enjoy food vendors, inflatable balloons, live entertainment, and of course, Santa Claus on Main Street. After the stroll concludes gather in Central Park for the lighting of the Christmas Tree @ Central Park. This is one of the most memorable nights in downtown!
Halloween @ Central Park
Our animated display is a spooky visual treat that will scare you into the spirit of Halloween. The Boneyard in Johnstown’s Central Park features holographic skeletons, eerie fog, FIRE, and of course some of your favorite Halloween tunes!
Trunk-or-Treat Around the Park
Bring your favorite little ghosts and ghouls and grab some candy from a variety of local businesses and organizations. Join us in October, wear your spooky costume, and trunk-or-treat your way around Central Park!
Johnstown Halloween Parade
Discover Downtown Johnstown is excited to become the host of one of our city’s greatest traditions! The parade will typically take place on the Tuesday before Halloween and follow a spooky route from Sargent’s Stadium at the Point through downtown along Main Street.
Annual Scarecrow Competition
We invite local businesses and organizations to join the fun in our annual scarecrow competition in Central Park. Head to the park and build your creation before our Halloween fun begins to help us make the park look great every fall!
Taste and Tour: Rediscover Downtown Johnstown
This annual event is a showcase of what our Downtown businesses have to offer the Greater Johnstown community. Delicious restaurants, thirst-quenching pubs, destination shopping and specialty retail stores, all will open their doors on a Saturday night and proudly showcase the great variety that Downtown Johnstown has to offer.
Downtown Beautification & Cleanup
Downtown Cleanup is a community-driven initiative aimed at enhancing the beauty and cleanliness of our city. With a focus on environmental sustainability, this collaborative effort brings together volunteers to participate in the cleanup and beautification of the Downtown area. Not only does this event improve the overall look of our City, but it also fosters a sense of community engagement and ownership among its participants.
First Fridays Concert Series
During the warmer summer months, we host concerts in Johnstown’s Central Park. As the name implies, these concerts are held on the first Friday of each month once they’re announced. Musicians featured are often local performers. Bring your favorite lawn chair and join us!
Bunny Hop Around Central Park
In the Spring, we host our annual Bunny Hop, where local businesses and organizations hand out candy and other Easter themed goodies. Dust off your bunny ears and hop on down to Central Park!
INITIATIVES
Central Park Lighting
To light up the night in Johnstown’s Central Park, we have installed color changing lights at the base of several trees, and other lighting fixtures. These lights add a dash of color and make the park much more inviting in the evening.
Trash Receptacles
Along Main Street, Central Park, and several side streets downtown, we have incorporated trash receptacles onto existing telephone poles and light posts. These help visitors dispose of their trash properly and keep the sidewalks clean.
Parking Meter Planters
When you park your car Downtown, a majority of the parking meters are topped off with a beautiful flower planter. These decorative flowers are planted seasonally.
Summer and Fall Flowers
We make an effort to further beautify the streets of Johnstown with a myriad of flower planters located in key sections of the city. Many of these flowers are planted during our city-wide cleanup day.
Main Street American Flags
Along Downtown’s Main Street, several American flags fly above the roadway, keeping downtown patriotic.
